Schools in dialogue with religious communities

Interorthodox Centre of the Church of Greece successfully completed the training activity for teachers entitled “Schools in Dialogue with Religious Communities”, which was implemented on October 11, 12 and 25, 2025.
Day 1 – 11/10:
At the Interorthodox Centre, the main presentation was given by Mr. Karababas and was followed by relevant workshops with the participation of expert scientists, educators, etc. The participating educators reflected, exchanged experiences and were inspired by new ways to open the classroom to the community, with a focus on intercultural and interreligious education.
Day 2 – 12/10:
The educational visit to the Beth Shalom Synagogue coincided with the Feast of Tabernacles, offering a unique experience of hospitality and dialogue from the Rabbi of Athens, Gabriel Negrin. Rabbi Diana Gerson from New York joined the group, adding an international dimension to our meeting.
Day 3 – 25/10:
The team of the Interorthodox Centre visited Chalkida, where we received a warm and moving welcome from His Eminence Metropolitan of Chalkida, Chrysostomos. This was followed by a tour of the city, a visit to the Ottoman Mosque, as well as the Synagogue and the Jewish Cemetery of Chalkida — unique monuments with a long historical and spiritual tradition.
The group of participants was accepted by the Jewish Community of Chalkida and the Vice President and educator Mr. Savvas Ovadias, who together with his associates presented to the teachers the historical path and the contribution of the community to the local society.
We warmly thank all the educators, the collaborating organizations and the local religious communities for their contribution to this fruitful experience of dialogue and learning.
The action was implemented with the support of the Hellenic-German Fund for the Future of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany.
