On Friday, 18 July 2025, the Interorthodox Centre of the Church of
\nGreece, located at the Holy Monastery of the Dormition of Mary in
\nPendeli, had the distinct pleasure of welcoming the multicultural and
\ninterfaith youth delegation \u201cBel Espoir \u2013 MED 25\u201d<\/a>, as part of their
\nmaritime journey across the Mediterranean.
\nComprising young adults aged 18 to 30 from diverse religious traditions
\nand cultural backgrounds across Mediterranean countries, the
\ndelegation\u2019s mission is to foster peaceful coexistence, interreligious
\ndialogue, and mutual understanding among the peoples of the region. This
\ninitiative operates under the auspices of the Focolare Movement<\/a> and,
\nduring its recent stop in Constantinople, the group was warmly received
\nby His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
\nDuring their visit to Pendeli, the participants had the opportunity to
\nbecome acquainted with the work of the Interorthodox Centre and to
\nexplore the Orthodox Church\u2019s theological approach to ecological
\nissues\u2014an especially pertinent topic, as this year\u2019s mission focuses on
\nthe relationship between humanity and creation.
\nParticular interest was expressed regarding the environmental
\nconsequences of recent wildfires that have affected Pendeli and the
\nsurrounding region.
\nThe delegation was accompanied by:
\n\u2022 Fr. Alexis Leproux, Vicarius Episcopalis of the Archdiocese of
\nMarseille, responsible for Mediterranean affairs;
\n\u2022 Deacon Fr. Marios Atallah, Head of Youth Ministry and Vocations of the
\nCatholic Archdiocese of Athens;
\n\u2022 and Ms. Patrizia Taranto, Head of the Focolare Movement in Greece and Cyprus.<\/a>
\nThe group was officially welcomed by His Grace Metropolitan Ioannis of
\nThermopylae, Director of the Interorthodox Centre of the Church of
\nGreece, who conveyed his heartfelt wishes for their peacebuilding
\nmission and encouraged them to continue serving as ambassadors of hope
\nand unity in the Mediterranean region.
\nRepresenting Interorthodox Centre, the following staff members also
\nreceived and engaged with the delegation:
\n\u2022 Ms. Kalliopi Mavragka, (Scientific Staff)
\n\u2022 Mr. Sergios Voilas, (Scientific Staff)
\n\u2022 Mr. Spyros Bitzas (Security Officer),
\n\u2022 and Ms. Irini Grypaiou (Head Librarian).<\/p>\n

This visit proved to be a meaningful occasion for dialogue,
\nintercultural exchange, and spiritual encounter\u2014underscoring the Church
\nof Greece\u2019s commitment to cultivating a Mediterranean marked by mutual
\nunderstanding and peace.<\/p>\n
